Holiday style: Your optimal options

by Kristin Washington

For holiday parties this season, create a holiday style that is all your own, but deviates from your typical apparel.  This New Year’s, make sure the ball drop isn’t the only sparkling, eye catching attraction.  Enforce the wow factor in some of the trendy options for this season’s celebrations and prepare for some awesome evenings out.  This is a special occasion, so venture out and veer away from your normal attire.  Detail is key!

Take flight

You’re not an animal, but fluff up with plumage- of the threaded variety. There are some great pieces with feathered trim. Feathers can also be included as accent pieces.

Think about dangling earrings, or grab a Clutchwith feathered design. Jazz up your accessories can really maximize a boring outfit’s potential. However, please avoid the hat in feather look, a la Yankee Doodle dandy.

Step aside Rudolph!

There’ll be no room for our favorite seasonal deer.  You’ll be the new red attraction of the holiday season.  With this bold color, you can do no wrong, however it is easy to overdo this look.  If you’re going to wear all red, red lipstick is over the top.  A natural look is best when you’re colorful garb is in full force.

If you would like to step up your makeup using red, try a bold lip color that suits your skin tone.  If you decide to wear winter white, you can accentuate your face with a deep red lipstick.

You can also go for an all black holiday style, but be sure to make your face the feature.  Again, add a bright or bold lip color and a smoky eye to reiterate that this is indeed a special occasion.

Innocent in lace

Lace is pretty and feminine.  Play up your girlish charm with an all lace dress.  The best lace is fitted and shows off your womanly physique.  Added appeal comes from cut out designs and unique necklines.  Enhance this girly look with curly hair, or for a noted contrast, pin straight hair.

Peek-a-boo

Leave something to the imagination.  Opt for holiday style with sheer material in prime spots.  Too much sheer material can be over-the-top, so pick designs with balance (equivalent sheer material on both sides), or a peek somewhere on the back.  There’s something very elegant and demure about simultaneous revelation and mystery.

You’re time to shine

Saunter through the party and let your dress move in the spotlight. Sequins, glitter, and sparkle embroidered or embedded within an outfit is this year’s flashiest look.  You’re outfit will speak for itself, so think simple accessories like a jeweled Minaudiere  and a bold heel.

Whether your holiday style is focused on your attire or your accessories, indulge in the evenings delights.  Engage in camaraderie, prepare for the new year, and take in all the sights, but be sure that you’re the most memorable of the evening.
