The times have changed from when we packed up our summer clothing consisting of tank tops, silk scarves, shorts, and maxi dresses to tweeds and sweaters in preparation for the fall season.
Many fashionistas even make an effort to purchase new fashions strictly for the fall. They find out the fashion trends based off of the styles from Fashion Week in September and seek to mimic those trends, even going the extra mile to purchase from the designers themselves. With that said, you can mimic those Fashion Week pieces for half of the price and use the fashions from spring and summer to add to your fall wardrobe.
Take for instance a tank top, which runs for $8.99 at Target. A simple tank top can be dressed up or dressed down. In the summer you may have worn it with jeans and flip-flops or even a long skirt. You can also wear it in the fall by placing a cardigan or an oversize sweater vest on top with a trendy scarf and hat. For work you can wear the tank under a blazer with a large embellished necklace. With this style you have the flexibility to dress it up or dress it down.
That maxi dress that you wore at the Fourth of July picnic can also be transitioned to the fall by wearing a leather jacket, opaque tights, and a scarf. You can accessorize it by adding summer jewelry to brighten up the look.
The style for the fall is mixing different textures and layering. This is the most cost efficient and controlled fashion statement. Adding a scarf to any outfit will give you style and warmth. In addition, if it is cold outside or raining you can always use your scarf to cover your head from the weather.
One thing to take into consideration when transitioning summer clothes into the fall season is saving money. There are a few items that you can splurge on that will help in transitioning your wardrobe, which are the following:
1. Scarves
2. Blazers
3. Basic fitted t-shirt or tank
4. Leather gloves
Even with these options, you can still mix high and low brands. For instance, leather gloves do not necessarily have to come from Lord & Taylor, but can simply come from Express and can be paired with an a-line dress from the French Connection, giving you the classy, Breakfast at Tiffany’s look. Scarves don’t have to come from Nordstrom’s, but can come from Marshalls and paired with a shirt from Neiman Marcus.
No matter the season, fashion is a statement that expresses your individuality.
